My 2009 Build: lights, alarm, system, more!

Hey guys! I bought my 2009 Tacoma about 4 months ago and decided to share some of my mods with you. This is a 2009 Magnetic Gray Tacoma DC Short Bed TRD Sport. Tell me what you think. Feel free to ask questions about anything. PM me for install or product questions. Thanks!! Enjoy!

First to go in was the alarm. I used the Viper 5901 2 way lcd with glass break sensor, motion sensor, hood pin, and tailgate pin. If someone gets in, Ill know Total-$300 installed. (Its cheap because im an installer so I did the labor myself and get the parts at wholesale)

tailgate pin:

LED/antenna/valet:

Audio/glass break sensor:

They rest of the alarm I cant show otherwise that would defeat the purpose of an alarm. I also used DEI's new X module so I did not have to lose a key for the remote start.

Next in was the HID's. 6300K Hi/Low and 6300K fogs. These light up the road light crazy! Total-$150

Next went the backup lights and custom bed/cargo lights. Back up lights come on anytime the car is in reverse AND can be turned on manually with or without the key, For the switch I used am OEM fog light switch. I have 3 of these switches total. 1 for the oem fogs, 1 for reverse lights, and 1 for the bed lights which ill show in a minute. Total for all lights and switches installed - $100

At night:

The bed/cargo lights are actually very bright and can be turned on anytime with or without the key. They are low wattage so they can be left on for awhile w/out the car on.

Next was the nerf bars. Made by Truck Champ. Support 500lbs (i tried) Black e-coated. Look great during the day. Total installed-$170

Then bluetooth. I used the parrot ck3100lcd In this picture you can also see the bass control knob for the sub amp. Total installed $110

Along with the bluetooth was the system of course. Equipment used:

-12 Sheets of Dynamat xtreme-$120

-Pioneer Avic-D2-Already owned ($1100 back in the day)

-XM tuner with Nav-traffic Service - $180

-iPod Connect-$50

-PAC steering wheel controls SWI-PS-$40

-Focal polyglass 6.5" components-$200

-Focal polyglass 6x9 coax-$200

-JL audio 500/1 for subs-$200

-JL audio 300/4 for speakers-$200

-JL audio Tacoma Stealth box 2x 10w1v2-$570

-JL Audio bass control knob -$20

-2x 100 amp ANL fuses, dual 4 gauge wire and all other

wiring-$150

-integrated OEM backup camera on factory rearview mirror and in-dash-free

-integrated OEM AUX input to work with aftermarket radio.

The factory rear speakers were 6.5". I modified the backdoor to fit my 6x9s.

This is the OEM backup camera on the factory rearview monitor and my in-dash. they come on together when the car is in reverse. I can also trigger the camera to turn on anytime while driving and when I turn on my after-market backup lights.

Last overall photo:

I have navi as part of the radio as well. Also as you can see in one of the pictures I have a magnaflow 14" exhaust. It sounds more like a truck but not too obnoxious.

Recently added:

-frost white interior lighting for dome and map lights

-Blue LED guage swap for my cluster

-Some emergency lighting (light bar in rear window and wig wag flashers - yes for legal work purposes only!!)

-A PA/Siren system (also for official and legal work purposes)

-My Escort solo S2 radar detector (hardwired)

Things to come in the future:

-Fog light always on mod

-cigarette lighter always on mod

-interior 110v inverter mod

-possible 3" lift but not anytime soon

-more emergency lighting

-And more!

Thanks for looking!! Hope to hear your opinions and suggestions soon.

Looks good from my house! What city you in? I am in Downey!

Looks great I have the same alarm/starter except with the Proximity sensor.

FYI - Your going to hear it about the HIDs in the stock light housings.

Please never drive anywhere where there is oncoming traffic with your HID fog lights on. The amount of blinding glare is dangerous for oncoming traffic.

Otherwise truck looks great, some nice mods for sure.

Thanks. I had the proxy sensor in my old car and a backup battery but kept getting false alarms so i decidd to skip it this time. As for the HID's, The low beams are surprisinglly not bright when you look at them head on at night. Its the angle of that bulb in that lens that really helps you to not blind others, the fogs though are a different story. They are super bright so i try to keep those off usually.

Very nice. Not fussy over the hids. I think the things should be banned. Nothing worst then being blinded at night by other drivers. Everything else is awesome though.

So im thinking about lifting the truck now. I dont want to go higher than 3". That being said, ill probably just do a body lift.... Ill add new rims and either 31" or 33" all terrain tires? Any suggestions?? All input is appreciated. Thanks guys!

My only suggestion would be to remove your cheap HID's before even considering a lift. The cheap HID kits are bad enough on a stock truck, you will just blind everyone if you lift your truck...The only way to do a proper HID retro is like yosh2000 has done here

Otherwise say no to glare!!!!

Also, a body lift is NOT the way to go, a spacer lift as inferior as it may be is even better than body lift.

A cheap quality lift would be a OME coil lift with rear AAL from toytec. If you aren't going to wheel your truck hard, then that should be more than sufficient as far as quality is concerned.

Yes, that is my truck. I am running Bilstein 5100's all the way around with the front's set at 1.75" of lfit. I am not running any lift in the rear, just the TSB leaf packs. My rims are 17x9 Moto Metal 951's. My tires are 265/70/17's.

Looks good! May I ask a couple of questions. Did you use shallow mount subs for your box? How do they sound facing foward with the seat up and then down? Did you have to cut out the plastic for the box to fit? Did you dynamat behind the box? Do the amps stay pretty cool under the seat? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Don't get a body lift. They're completely pointless and look like sh*t. Let me explain.

On most pickups, if someone wants to mount bigger tires, they just increase the ride height. The easiest/cheapest way to do this is a body lift. BUT on these trucks, it's not the ride height that's the problem. It's the body mounts.

You can mount up to 31s (I believe, someone correct me if i'm wrong.) without having to shave the body mounts. But when it's 33s you're talking about, you can have all the lift in the world and they still wont fit because the body mounts are in the way. There's a thread laying around about a guy who shaved his body mounts and then welded them so they were boxed, and therefore stronger than stock.

You can get a cheap 3-inch lift kit from toytec.com. It's just front blocks and a pair of add-a-leafs in the back, but it's more functional than a body lift. It also keeps your frame where it should be. Out of sight.
