ok so im kind of clueless when it comes to working on my truck. i have a 1994 toyota hilux/pickup v6 4x4
im sure this is very simple for everyone but for me i have no idea. my coolant/antifreeze is low in my truck, i got the right type of antifreeze, now how do i top it off?? i dont want to drain or replace just top off.
so far i have taken off the radiator cap turn the engine on and slowly filled the rad, after a few minutes of letting it run and letting the air bubble out it stayed full, so i turned the engine off put the cap back on but after letting my truck sit the resevoir was still at the low line. after topping off the rad do i need to fill the resevoir tank??? if someone could help me out would be very apreciative, something so simple is stumping me! thanks!

Yeah you are on the right track! There was probably still air in the cooling system. When fluid gets warm, it expands. When it cools it retracts. Your truck cooled down, drawing coolant from the reservoir! To ensure no air is in the system, try jacking the front of the vehicle up, or park it on a hill so the radiator neck (where the radiator cap screws onto) is the highest point. Let the truck warm up, with the heater on, and add coolant to the radiator as necessary. Put the cap back on and finish up with topping off the reservoir!

thanks, ill do that, so all i have to do is fill up the rad (by putting it on a hill or something of the sort) topping it off then just fill up the resevoir??

Yep! Keep an eye on it though over the next couple of days! You could have an external or internal leak causing the coolant level to be low! the idea right now is to make sure all the air is out of the system! You can accomplish this by making sure the radiator neck is the highest point on the engine and let the truck run for a while. You can help that out by running the engine at 2000 rpm's for two minutes!
