Highlander Cigar Aficionados!!!!!

Hey Y'all,

Wanted to start a thread here for all us cigar aficionados (or enthusiasts, if you prefer) to chat, post pics, compare smokes, etc. Enjoy!!!

BayouBengal

Relaxing with a Romeo & Julieta Mille Fleurs (Cuban) on the Third Burrows of Mt. Rainier in Washington, July 2008.

Same Washington State trip, this time at Harry's Ridge on Mt. St. Helens with a Romeo & Julieta Rothchilde en Tubo (Dominican), July 2008

Enjoying a Mojito and a Cohiba Robusto (Cuban, of course!) at the Hotel Nacional in Havana, Cuba this May 2009.

Picked up a few boxes while down in Cuba on Mission. Really enjoying the Romeo & Julieta Cedros de Luxe No. 3, Cohiba Robusto, and aged Ramon Allones Specially Selected. Also got some Partagas Serie D No. 4, nice now but gonna age for a while.

Enjoy the Fuente Work of Art and Hemingways (Dominicans) among other domestics. Gotta go for now!

Oh, yah, cigars! Now we're talkin'!!

Glad to finally be able to talk to someone about cigars here. I'm a pretty big fan of Romeo & Julieta myself, and have about two dozen Vintage #5s I bought a few months back still in the humidor. Looks like from the cigars you listed that I like milder cigars than you do. Some of my other favorites are the Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur #1, Macanudo Gold Label, and Drew Estates Natural line. Hope there's a few other willing to join in with us to discuss cigars...I've got a few questions to ask you other enthusiasts. This is cool!

That's why I smoke outside and not in the house or car. I also throw my clothes into the washer right after too. Any other brands you like beside Cohiba?

i prefer cohiba's, but i wont turn down a romeo y juliet or a monte cristo...

i only enjoy one once in a blue moon, and if i can, with a glass of porte =)

Ditto. I have one on average about every three weeks. Actually, I like to have a tall glass of ice cold water when I smoke one, but an ice cold beer on occasion ain't bad either. Whenever I go to the desert I take a cigar with me, but pretty much every time the wind picks up in the evening and there's just no way to smoke it comfortably.

Try a glass of sweet iced tea with your cigar, it's a Southern treat! Also, why not just face downwind when you're smokin' in the sand!? I'm gonna try one of the Hong Kong distributors for some Habanos here soon. Glad to be back home in Louisiana after being on the road for 2.5 months, but the HL was awesome on the trip!

Awesome having you back, man, I missed seeing you around the forums!

I'll have to try the sweet iced tea thing since I love that stuff, but only ever get really good sweet tea when I travel down south. I'll have to concoct some myself and take it to the desert with me. But the wind....when the wind comes up in the desert here it's usually 25 to 35 MPH, so even lighting a cigar is pretty much an impossibility. Just some kind of a freakish Murphy's Law kind of thing since the desert doesn't blow that hard very often, but damn it all if it doesn't blow like that most of the times I'm out there!

Anyway, great having you back buddy....

While waiting for the Light The Night Walk for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society last night (yes, our cigar shop team was the top fundraiser statewide, even beating out the big corporations!) I had the opportunity to smoke a Rocky Patel Sun Grown that I had in my humidor for a year and a half. The extra aging made a world of difference, as I've found to be true on all his cigars save one. I still find Rocky's Decade cigar to be a great smoke right out the box!

Oh yeah, TrailDust, look up the Brunton Helios Stormproof lighter. It lights in hurricane-force winds, is waterproof to one atmosphere for one hour (which comes in very handy on an open-ocean kayak!), and has a locking, sealed case. Whether in a hurricane, or just driving down the road with all the windows down, it works great!

I've got some Romeo and Julieta Vintage #5 cigars that I've had in my humidor about two years now. I've been smoking other brands lately, in particular Macanudos, so these have aged by accident. Your posting has given me the urge to break one out perhaps this weekend and give it a try.

Sounds like the kind of lighter I need...the one I have now is a piece of s**t! Although I have to say lighting the cigar is one thing, but when the wind is too high you just can't maintain that ash on the end of the cigar and it ruins the smoke for me. Eating, smoking, hell, even breathing, I hate fighting the wind.

Anybody light up a good cigar lately? I pulled out one of my Romeo & Julietta Vintage #5s the other day. Some of the cigars from that back have been aging over two years now and picking up the flavor from some of my mellower cigars and have turned even more tasty.

Oh yes! I have found a new home. My wife and I both enjoy a good cigar. Our current favorites all come from Drew Estates. The Blondie Belicosos are particularly nice. Cold Infusion Tea is a good hour smoke too. I have converted from a strict purist to the "flavored" variety. Still enjoy a good puro too. One of my favorites ( don't laugh) is a brand called Big Butt. Really. Very hard to find now.
